Generation Awake is a campaign which aims to raise awareness among consumers, and that their daily choices can make a big difference to the world. The campaign was created by the European Commission, which aims to highlight what we can do in our daily lives to save natural resources, such as water, energy, wood, metals and reduce waste.
Ultimately, it is all down to choices – by making day to day decisions and constantly thinking about ways of being friendlier to the environment. Not only does this campaign focus on the environment, but it can also save you money and improve your lifestyle.
The campaign is aimed at 25-40 year olds, with the aim to make people think about their consumption habits, and the impact on the environment and natural resources, as well as our quality of life and health and wellbeing.
There is a wide range of information on the website, which include:
- Consumption Guide and personal tips: Easy tips to help you make the best use of resources and reduce waste in your daily life and in what you choose to buy.
- Designers cases: There are several designers across Europe who were keen to show their support to the Generation Awake campaign. The designers find innovative ways to recover, recycle and reuse materials to have useful and attractive products. Among them, for example, is UK-based company Thrashion, that recycles old and broken skateboards to make jewellery, accessories and homeware.
- Interview with Richard Rubbish: Richard Rubbish, a talking grey rubbish bin, is the newest member of the Generation Awake campaign. His personal motto is ‘Turn rubbish into a resource’. In this interview we learn more about his mission and the campaign, and receive some tips from him on what each of us can do to support his work.
